Art School in Sandy Springs
Offering one day workshops!
WORKSHOPS 2008 ______________________________________ There are BASICS we say we know. The question is, are you applying them to your own paintings? We know a lot about art, some more than others, but we all strive to grow in our own way. The classic ‘still life’ genre presents opportunities to apply many of the ‘principles’ that make a painting work or not work. A still life set up does not need a potty break every 30 minutes or the sun does not change positions, causing the lighting to change. Each workshop will be based around one of the essentials necessary to great painting. Using a simple still life setup, students will use their chosen medium to do various exercises and paintings to understand a principle’s importance. There will be a lot of interactive learning and demonstration. Fun and laughter is mandatory. Workshop welcomes beginners to advanced. Workshop Number 1 will be based on Values "TRICKS OF THE TRADE" Supplies: Unprimed Canvas – minimum three yards ______________________________________ PHOTOCRAFT This workshop will challenge those who intend to move out of their comfort zones to explore representational imagery beyond mere copying what is before them. Using a logical and progressive approach toward painting, we utilize the still-life as a focus, while pushing ourselves to move forward into a more satisfying way of handling paint. The goal is to begin to gain control of the rich medium of oil painting with confidence and understanding. Informative and passionate, Charles approaches art instruction by addressing visual principles and the material power of technique to equip the student with the skills to fulfill their own artistic vision.
We are constantly adding new workshops throughout the year. Below is the schedule for 2008 to date. We ask that you please log on routinely to see what we have added to our schedule.
We are very proud of the quality of the instructors providing workshops at our school. Instructors are both regional and from out of state.
As a general rule, we ask that participants arrive on time as workshops begin promptly, as advertised. Unless an instructor asks, please do not bring personal works for critique.
Due to their disruption, we ask that cell phones not be used during workshops and that calls be taken during the mid-day break. We also ask that conversations be kept to a minimum during a workshop and that students share what they have learned throughout their personal learning experiences during breaks. The school often videos the workshop demos and it is important that the setting be as quiet as possible.
We apologize that we cannot accommodate students who wish to attend the latter half of a workshop. Enrollees are expected to attend the full workshop to receive full benefit. Late admissions are disruptive to both instructor and students.
Thank you for your understanding in all of these matters.
Do join us this year in one of our exciting workshops!
